On March 19, 2022, international rugby player Federico Martin Aramburu was shot dead in the middle of the street by far-right members. On the day one year after the tragedy, a tribute was paid to him in Paris in the presence of his relatives and important personalities of the rugby world.
The world of French rugby gathered at 146 boulevard Saint-Germain at the end of the morning. This is the location of the murder of international rugby player Federico Martin Aramburu, one year ago today.
The Argentine athlete was killed during an altercation with two far-right activists, Romain Bouvier and Loïk Le Priol, who have since been charged with murder.

His wife, his mother, his friend Shaun Hegarty who were present by his side on the day of the tragedy, as well as several other rugby personalities, including Bernard Laporte, paid tribute to the former Biarritz Olympique winger.

The main reason for this tribute was mainly to remember. Neither the man nor the drama. Several speeches were made, in particular by the sportsman’s mother, Cécilia, who stated: “All extremism causes disasters (…) threat in many societies”.
The deputy mayor of Paris, responsible for sports, was also present. “The injustice is endless, the anger and misunderstanding are always the same,” he said. He continued: “The violence and ideas that led to the worst here will always be fought (…) The fight against the far right, racism, hate, identity ideology will always be central to our values”.

A plaque will be placed
After several speeches, a plaque was unveiled with the inscription “In memory of Federico Martin Aramburu, French-Argentinian citizen, international rugby player, son, husband, father and friend killed on March 19, 2022 at the age of 42”. This memorial plaque will soon be placed at this address.
