Aptiv opens its first factory in Oujda and the 7th in Morocco

Aptiv officially launched its activities this Saturday at its new production site in Oujda, which will become the Aptiv Group’s 7th production site and 10th activity site in Morocco. An inauguration that reinforces the kingdom’s place in the Aptiv group’s regional dynamics, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a press release. This factory will eventually provide more than 3,000 direct jobs and will assemble electrical harnesses for one of the world’s largest automakers, it added.

Located in the free zone of Oujda on 8 hectares of land adjacent to the airport, the construction of the factory required an investment of 394 million dirhams. It is designed to be “environmentally friendly”, consistent with Aptiv’s commitment to Zero Carbon by 2040. The manufacturing materials and equipment (insulation panels, solar panels, etc.) will reduce the resulting consumption of water and electricity. This plant is the first automotive industry to establish in the Oriental region to boost economic and industrial activity in the region. The construction started on January 24, 2022 and was completed in March 2023, in full compliance with the deadlines set in the investment agreement.

“Today’s inauguration is part of the royal initiative for the development of the Oriental region. It is a first project in the automotive industry that reflects the region’s ability to attract world leaders and paves the way for new investments that will create wealth and jobs for young people,” said Ryad Mezzour on the occasion. , Minister of Industry and Handel, cited by the press release.

“The realization of this project in our region demonstrates the trust that the Aptiv Group places in Morocco and Moroccan talents, in particular thanks to the commitment of our 17,000 employees who work every day to promote the quality and competitiveness of Made in Morocco,” said Mohammed Filali, general manager of Aptiv Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Portugal, during the inauguration of the factory.

In Morocco, Aptiv opened its first production facility in 1999, in Tangier, and has continued to develop ever since. The activity has 7 factories, 1 satellite, 1 logistics center and 1 development center, spread over Tangier, Kenitra, Meknes and Oujda.
